History
Foy’s Lake was created in 1924 by the Assam Bengal Railway - named for a railway engineer surnamed Foy - to supply water to the rail yards, and was later developed into an amusement park. Mahamaya Lake, further north in Mirsharai, was formed more recently by a small irrigation dam and has become popular for kayaking amid forested hills.
