The best window for Ratargul Swamp Forest is Jun – Sep. November to February is the easiest season for travel across Bangladesh generally - cool and dry - while the monsoon between June and September is when the haors, waterfalls and hills are at their most dramatic.
How to reach: From Sylhet city, hire a CNG or car to Gutatikar ghat (about 1 hour), then take a small country boat into the flooded forest - water levels, and the experience, are best from June to September.

A naturally regenerating freshwater swamp forest that floods every monsoon, Ratargul was long known only to local fishermen before small boat tours discovered it in the 2010s. Comparisons to the Amazon’s flooded forests helped turn it into one of Sylhet’s signature attractions.

- Go in the monsoon - in the dry season the trees are simply standing on bare mud, not water.
- Wear something you don’t mind getting splashed; boats are narrow and low-sided.
- Combine with Jaflong or Lalakhal on the same day trip from Sylhet.
