History
The University of Chittagong was founded in 1966 to serve as the region's premier seat of higher learning for the port city and south-eastern Bangladesh. Its campus was located on a large forested tract at Fatehpur Hathazari rather than in the city centre, giving it one of the most distinctive settings of any South Asian university. Since then it has expanded into a comprehensive research university with strong marine-science and social-science faculties.
