History
Designed by American architect Louis Kahn, construction began in 1961 for what was then meant to be a provincial assembly building, and was completed only in 1982 - over a decade after Bangladesh’s 1971 independence had already redefined its purpose as a national parliament. It is now regarded as one of the 20th century’s masterpieces of modern architecture.
