History
Designed by architect Syed Mainul Hossain and completed in 1982 after a national design competition, the monument’s seven isosceles triangular planes of rising height symbolise the successive sacrifices of Bengali history, culminating in the 1971 Liberation War. It stands over mass graves of martyrs from the war.

- Visit on or around 16 December (Victory Day) or 26 March (Independence Day) for ceremonial events, though it is far busier then.
- The reflecting pools in front make for the classic photograph - arrive early for fewer people in frame.
- Dress and behave respectfully; this is a war memorial and burial site.
