History
The Islamic University of Technology was founded in 1981 in Gazipur as a subsidiary organ of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), created to train engineers, technologists and technical teacher-trainers for its member states. It is one of very few universities in Bangladesh with an explicitly international mandate, drawing a meaningful share of its student body from OIC countries in Africa and Asia. It has built a reputation as one of the country's more selective, research-oriented engineering schools.
