History
BUET traces its lineage to the Dacca Survey School of 1876, which grew into the Ahsanullah School of Engineering in 1912 and Ahsanullah Engineering College in 1948. It was upgraded to full university status in 1962 as the East Pakistan University of Engineering and Technology, becoming BUET after independence in 1971. It has remained the country's foremost training ground for engineers and architects ever since, and its students have repeatedly been at the centre of national political movements.

BUET's compact 82-acre campus sits in Palashi, central Dhaka, next to Dhaka University, and includes the landmark Auditorium Building, a Teacher-Student Centre, and residential halls such as Titumir Hall and Ahsanullah Hall.
