History
Shahjalal University of Science and Technology was established in 1986 in Sylhet, named after the region's revered Sufi saint Shah Jalal, as a specialised institution for science and technology education. It opened with a small number of departments and grew steadily through the 1990s and 2000s into a broader technical university. It is particularly known for its early and strong computer science and engineering programme.
