History
Built in the mid-15th century by Khan Jahan Ali, the Turkic general-saint who founded the city of Khalifatabad (present-day Bagerhat), the mosque takes its name from its 60 stone pillars even though it actually has 77 domes. It survives as the largest sultanate-era mosque in Bangladesh and was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985.
