History
Patuakhali Science and Technology University was established in 2000 in the coastal district of Patuakhali, evolving from an earlier agricultural training college, to serve the specific needs of Bangladesh's cyclone-prone southern coastal belt. It built its academic focus around fisheries, agriculture and disaster-resilient farming from the outset. It remains one of the few Bangladeshi universities with a dedicated Faculty of Disaster Management.

The university's campus at Dumki, about 20 km from Patuakhali town, sits amid low-lying farmland and fish ponds typical of the coastal delta, with dedicated experimental farms and a marine academy affiliation.
