History
Khulna University was established in 1991 as a specialised, multidisciplinary university in south-western Bangladesh, near the Sundarbans mangrove forest. Unlike most public universities, it was built around a 'school' structure rather than traditional single-subject departments, encouraging interdisciplinary teaching from the outset. It has since become a hub for environmental science and disaster-management research relevant to the coastal delta region.
